Abstract: Objective: To provide pediatricians with suggestions for how to help encourage children and adolescents to decrease their risks

Conclusions: Authors point out that mass media can be both beneficial and harmful to children and adolescents, and may contain sexual content, violence, alcohol and tobacco use, and may lead to obesity and decreased performance in school. Based on the benefits of media education authors recommend that pediatricians utilize the American Academy of Pediatrics Media History form to encourage patients to think about their media use, provide advice to parents, caution against allowing children under age two to watch television, limit television in their offices, monitor media, and collaborate with the public health sector to monitor mass media and encourage media education. © Center on Media and Child Health
