Database Feedback

The CMCH Database of Research launched with 91 citations in October of 2004. Since then it has grown to over 1,300 citations and has been used by researchers, parents and teachers worldwide. Here are some of the responses we've received about the creation of this innovative resource:

“It is my personal goal to get CMCH research into the hands of policy setters and let facts and research dictate public health policies regarding children rather than hype-savvy entertainment companies. “

Marsali Hancock -- President, Internet Keep Safe Coalition

This database is the first to look at all media effects that might be detrimental to children. It is a unique starting point for people from fields as far apart as sociology, media studies, psychology and medicine which allows them to discover what has been done in other fields. This encourages a broader view of the field and the issues. By focusing not just on violence and sex, as is customary, but on the broadly defined issue of media and health, it fills an important gap.

Jan Van den Bulck, PhD, DSc -- Professor and Chair
Leuven School for Mass Communication Research, Belgium

"I am excited about this new resource and heartened that more progress is being made on the awareness of this issue.”

Jean Rogers -- Freelance Writer and Communications Consultant

“The research database that CMCH is providing is a key to supporting the development of the media literacy field.  By insuring consistency and comprehensiveness, the database allows for comparing ‘apples to apples’ and for more efficient use of research dollars, since valid research is available so readily.  Excellent work!”

Tessa Jolls -- President and CEO, Center for Media Literacy

“Amazing search engine you have—really incredible!”

Sally Linford -- VP of Corporate Communications, Internet Keep Safe Coalition

“I tried the CMCH Database and it provides a great source of information to a researcher and of course to parents and teachers. Very easy to handle!”

S. Liliana Escobar-Chaves, DrPH -- Faculty Associate, Center for Health Promotion & Prevention Research, University of Texas

"The CMCH site and search engine are the perfect place to start when you're looking for quality research on youth and the media."

Brian A. Primack, MD, EdM; Assistant Professor, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
