Girl in headphones, smilingThe prevalence of portable MP3 players has increased dramatically over the years, although research shows that kids listen to music in a variety of ways: radio, CDs, on cell phones, on iPods or other MP3 players, and on computers. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, kids ages 8 to 18 listen to 2.5 hours of audio a day.

In general, girls usually listen to more music than boys do. The time that youth spend with media also increases as they get older. Kids are also multitasking while listening to music. According to Kaiser, 43% are listening to music while performing other tasks.
